vehicle, but several connector trails allow for loop trips. The trail passes cypress
ponds, bogs, and blue springs as it meanders through this amazing longleaf forest.
The trail actually is a dogleg using the 13-mile north loop (part of which is used
in Hike 18 , Nellie Pond Loop) and the Five Runs Loop ( Hike 17 ) with a connector
in between. If you are learning about backpacking, this is a great trail to do it on,
with level to lightly rolling hills, plenty to see, and lots of routes out in case you
have to bail. Camping is allowed anywhere along the trail using the dispersal
method but remember, hunting is allowed and could restrict your access to the
trail. Contact the USDA Forest Service at (334) 222-2555 or visit
