Gras in the United States began in Mobile. The first
celebration was at Twenty-Seven Mile Bluff, the first
Mobile settlement, in 1703. The first float was a papier-
mâché bull's head pulled on a cart for the Boeuf Gras
(Fatted Ox) Society in 1711.
