Problem: If 0.5 x - 1 = -6, find x .
Solution:
0.5 x - 1 = -6
0.5 x = -5
x = -10
SUMMARY OF KEY POINTS
If x is in the numerator, leave x where it is and move the other numbers
away from x .
Only move x if it is in the denominator.
It does not matter if x is on the left side or the right side of the equation, as
x = 7 and 7 = x mean the same thing.
