A term referring to the commonly spoken language or dialect of a particular people or place.
Graphic examples of this include hand-drawn signs, street signs and found items from other
countries and cultures that can be reinterpreted.
Visual impairment
A loss of vision to such a degree that the person will require additional support, as their visual
capabilities are so significantly reduced that they cannot be corrected by conventional means,
such as refractive correction or medication.
Visual identity
The visible elements of a brand, such as form, shape and colour, which summarize and com-
municate meaning that cannot be imparted through words alone.
Visual language
A system of communication that relies on visual elements to convey meaning.
Wayfinding
A term used to describe the way in which people orient themselves in a physical space and
navigate from one place to another.
