Outreach keys to the city, 'Pocket card'.
In addition to environmental wayfinding, a proposal for outreach material is presented
by the agency; 'keys to the city' includes a 'Manhattan in your pocket' card and a
selection of 'insider tips' to help decode the city. These are applied to a range of
widely used products such as coffee cups and tickets. Printed and digital maps would
be available on handheld devices and on vehicular GPS navigation systems.
Outcome
This case study demonstrates the complexity of developing a comprehensive, cohes-
ive wayfinding system for a large city. With an understanding of the user's behaviour
and analysis of the challenges NYC presents, it is possible to create a strategy for the
