Each section was defined by partitions to create the five different areas of the exhib-
ition. The screens used product elements such as speaker grilles, calculator layouts
and hi-fiinterfaces. These were to distinguish the relevant areas and to help tell the
story of the products. 'The aim was to suggest the product had been deconstructed
and rescaled beyond the intended proportions,' Tim Beard, a partner in Bibliothèque,
explained. 'Within each partition elements were removed by routing away geometric
shapes of the products; the negative space left acted as a window into a different sec-
tion.'
A 7m-wide (23ft) mural of the Audio 300 stereo system on the back wall was painted,
as opposed to using vinyl or a digital print. This was superimposed with a grid to re-
inforce the rational approach to product layout. This was supplemented with technic-
al illustrations that utilized photographic elements and line artwork, also used for the
exhibition marketing.
The completed exhibition perfectly complemented the design of the manufactured ob-
jects. The materials chosen, such as the shelving system, minimal white tables and
