In-Depth Information
The arrow is a useful graphic device that directs the attention of the viewer. The bold wayfinding
design used at the Zmik Spacial Design Artshop09 attracts the gaze to a particular path or route
that leads to a specific location.
Arrows
The arrow is used in many forms of information design, such as diagrams, wayfinding
and explanatory graphics. It is a useful graphic device that directs the attention of the
viewer. It moves their gaze to a particular path or route and leads to a specific loca-
tion. Using an arrow allows the viewer to concentrate only on the information that is
necessary, filtering out everything that is not required. Since it is a graphic and not
text-based, it is a universal symbol and so acts as one of the first steps in the com-
prehension of information. When designing with arrows, take care to make it forceful
enough to capture the audience's attention, but not to overpower the overall design.
