viewer. It moves their gaze to a particular path or route and leads to a specific loca-
tion. Using an arrow allows the viewer to concentrate only on the information that is
necessary, filtering out everything that is not required. Since it is a graphic and not
text-based, it is a universal symbol and so acts as one of the first steps in the com-
prehension of information. When designing with arrows, take care to make it forceful
enough to capture the audience's attention, but not to overpower the overall design.
