SOME VINEYARDS TO VISIT
Most of the region's vineyards are open to the public and offer free or paying
wine tastings, especially during the tourist season. The following vineyards, large,
small, or unique, are a sample of the treasures of this famous valley.
Kelowna
Calona Vineyards, easily accessible
from downtown Kelowna, was the
valley's very fi rst commercial vine-
yard.
Olivier
Domaine Combret is run by a
French wine family that has produced
wine for generations. Their wines
have received numerous awards.
Quails' Gate Estate Winery is a
family vineyard whose chardonnays
and pinot noirs are particularly well re-
garded. The Old Vines Restaurant is
one of the region's best restaurants.
Inniskillin Okanagan Vineyards,
which also has a vineyard in Ontario,
is reputed for its ice wine.
Osoyoos
NK'MIP Cellars is owned and man-
aged by an aboriginal nation. Not
only do they produce a well-regarded
wine, but the view from the restau-
rant terrace is fantastic.
Naramata
Elephant Island Orchard Wines
produces wine not from grapes but
from other fruits. Among their most
popular varieties are the cherry wine
and Fuji apple ice wine, which won't
fail to impress you.
Peachland
Hainle Vineyards is an organic vine-
yard combined with a very active
school of cuisine and a gastronomic
restaurant.
Lake Breeze Vineyards produces
only about 6,000 cases of wine per
year; their white wine is becom-
ing more and more prominent. The
Patio restaurant is worth a visit.
Penticton
Red Rooster Winery, whose wines
were served to Queen Elizabeth II
when she visited the region in 2005,
also hosts an art gallery.
Laughing Stock Vineyards pro-
duces, among others, the excellent
Portfolio, a blend of merlot and cab-
ernet sauvignon, aged 20 months in
oak casks.
Summerland
Sumac Ridge Estate Winery is one
of the biggest vineyards of the region.
Poplar Grove Wine & Cheese pro-
duces excellent wines and the perfect
home-made cheeses to accompany
them.
Westbank
Mission Hill Family Estate, a grand
vineyard, is not to be missed.
