KNOWING YOUR WEST END
FROM YOUR WEST SIDE
A fi rst glance at any map of Vancouver can be a real brow-wrink-
ler. Just when you think you've fi gured out where the West End is,
you're confronted with a West Side; then you realize that there's both
an Eastside and an East Vancouver—not to mention three bodies of
water surrounding the city! So, in the interest of smoothing out the
wrinkles, here's a brief glance at Vancouver's geography.
Gastown is located in the northeastern corner of downtown, be-
ginning at the intersection of Richards, Water and West Cordova
streets, and stretching a few blocks east, roughly to Carrall Street. It
is bounded to the south by West Cordova Street and to the north by
Burrard Inlet.
Chinatown stretches southeast of Gastown, from Carrall Street in
the west to Gore Street in the east, and from East Pender Street in
the north to East Georgia Street in the south.
The Downtown Eastside is bounded by Burrard Inlet to the north
and Hastings Street to the south, Clark Drive to the east and Main
Street to the west.
