With the arrival of fall, certain marine
mammals, like the grey whale, mi-
grate from Alaska to Baja California in
Mexico. They make their way back up
to Alaska in the spring.
Large numbers of cougars inhabit
British Columbia's forests, particularly
on Vancouver Island, where they feed
on Columbia blacktail deer.
An impressive variety of birds and
mammals inhabit the Priaries. Some
of the more noteworthy winged spe-
cies are bald eagles found around the
northern lakes, and prairie and pere-
grine falcons, which can often be seen
in and around the plains either diving
for prey or waiting patiently on a fence
post by the highway. Finally, the migra-
tory path of the trumpeter swan passes
through Alberta.
To the delight of anglers, the lakes and
rivers of Western Canada are teeming
with countless freshwater fi sh, includ-
ing eight different varieties of trout.
