is named after Edith Louisa Cavell, a
British nurse who became known in
World War I for her refusal to leave her
post near Brussels so that she could
continue caring for the wounded on
both sides. Arrested for spying by the
Germans and accused of having helped
Allied prisoners escape, she was shot
on October 12th, 1915. To commemor-
ate this woman's exceptional courage,
the government of Canada decided to
name the most impressive mountain in
the Athabasca Valley after the martyred
nurse.
Jasper National Park
Covering 11,228kmĀ², Jasper National
Park is the Canadian Rockies' largest
park. It was created by the Canadian
government in 1907.
The Ashlar Ridge Viewpoint offers
a stunning view of the region. Nearby
are the Miette Hot Springs , the hot-
test springs in all of the Rockies' parks.
