DRIVING IN NORTHERN
BRITISH COLUMBIA
Most of the northern highways in British Columbia are paved. Some
portions of the Stewart-Cassiar Highway and the Alaska Highway,
however, are gravel. Flat tires are common so it is important to check
your spare tire.
Bring along an antifl at spray as tire repair workshops are relatively
uncommon. Ensure that your vehicle is in good working order before
heading out. A tow to the nearest town and waiting around for parts
from Vancouver will cost you a lot of time and money.
Fill up your gas tank whenever you can since gas stations are rare.
Take a 25-litre jerry can just to be sure. Don't forget to buckle up and
keep your headlights on at all times for better visibility on the some-
times dusty long straight stretches.
