Summary
This chapter described the different kinds of reports you can author with Report
Builder 3.0 such as parameterized reports, free form list reports, drill-down and
drill-through reports, subreports, and so on. It also provides hands-on examples
of getting data from SQL Server and XML data documents. Many of the interactive
features such as document maps, interactive sort, and alternate row highlighting
are also described and included in the exercises. There are also hands-on exercises
for the new gauges/gadgets such as maps, sparklines, data bars, and indicators.
Creating report parts and reusing report part items are also described.
Report Builder 3.0 can also be used for authoring reports that can be published to
SharePoint site and the authoring works the same way as it is used to author for
native mode. This will be covered in Chapter 7 , Self-Service Data Alerts in SSRS 2012 .
SQL Server 2012 integration with SharePoint 2010 provides a means to author more
engaging, highly interactive reports known as Power View reports with live data
making previewing totally redundant. In the next chapter, creating Power View
reports from scratch is described with complete details.
