Extending over nearly 600 kmĀ², the city of Chicago has an average density close to
50 inhabitants/ha, making it the third densest city in the United States, after New
York and San Francisco. Its suburbs are, however, very spread out, resulting in the
average density of the greater city being only 14 inhabitants/ha.
