biological knowledge that are rooted in the practices of industrial man-
agement and in informatics. Lean biology—the sets of practices that
produce bioinformatic knowledge—is a way not only of describing this
trend, but also of suggesting how it is coupled to the commoditization
of life in the age of biotechnology and biocapital. 48
