Problem statement - 1
Let's first take an example of one of the start-up companies providing video monitoring
hardware and software to their customers. Initially the company has developed its own
storage solution, which proved to be time consuming, and they had to spend time architect-
ing their storage solution, which also made it difficult to scale. Their customers can view
high-definition video which can be viewed from iOS and Android devices or the Internet.
Consumers and small businesses can use the company's video platform to monitor homes,
offices, or pets. The company offers a free trial, real-time streaming service as well as
Cloud Video Recording ( CVR ), a subscription service that gives their users the ability to
review stored footage over a 7 or 30-day period and make clips. Their major problem was
to maintain provisioned throughput and streaming.
Solution
As a solution the company has considered other cloud providers. The company chose AWS
because of cost effectiveness and the maturity of AWS solutions. The company runs their
video streaming services and storage servers on Amazon-managed EC2 and Amazon S3,
and uses Amazon DynamoDB to scale and maintain throughput for customers, as they were
suffering because of their provisioned throughput and managing the large data sets of their
customers. Now the company's developers don't have to work hard writing code and data-
base queries such as write queries, and they report consistent low latency with DynamoDB.
