To interact with EC2 machines launched by Amazon EMR, you will need a key pair.
To generate a key pair, perform the following steps:
1. Click on
Key Pairs
in the navigation pane as shown in the following screenshot:
2. You can use your existing key pairs, or you can create a new one from here as de-
scribed in the screenshot.
Tip
At any point of time, if you lose the key pair, you cannot connect to your Amazon
EC2 instances.
Step 2 - Creating the Amazon EMR cluster
To run Hive on Amazon EMR, you have to create a cluster that has Hive enabled. This
configuration needs specific apps and infrastructure to connect with DynamoDB using
Hive. The following procedure will explain to you the necessary steps to create and
launch an interactive Hive cluster from the AWS management console:
1. Go to Amazon EMR service and click on
Create Cluster
