9.5.5 Final Choice
Leaving the analysis in this stage would likely lead to a conclusion that 220,000 per annum is
worthwhile additional cost for the improved performance of the layout nr.3307, which then
qualifies as the winner amongst 13,000 generated layouts. To apply a 'finishing touch', the
two final layouts have been produced by modifying the layouts nr.3307 and nr.962 manually,
which is shown in Figures 9.14 and 9.15, respectively.

The modification included elimination of the pipes that do not exist in the template network.
There are two such pipes in the layout nr.3307: (1) pipe 5-35 in Figure 9.10b has been
reconnected as 5-34, keeping the same diameter of 125mm, and (2) the peripheral pipe 23-30
has been reconnected as 8-9 with the same diameter of 250mm. The only pipe that differs
from the template in the layout nr.962 is 31-43 which has been reconnected as 14-30 keeping
