Needless to say, all the conclusions have been based on just two simple networks, despite the
fact that numerous simulations have been run. This underlines the fact that this kind of
analyses can be highly laborious in case any larger (number of) networks. Nevertheless, the
research illustrates that the real challenge to optimise between the investment and O&M costs
from the perspective of network reliability exists only on a smaller network scale i.e. in
particular situations of a few (larger) pipes. Any water distribution network will usually
become more reliable in general, if additional funds have been invested into larger pipes
rather than the larger pumps.
