because there will not be a statistical difference between the observations of the
sphere at different time instances. In other words, nonzero motion field can generate
a zero optical flow field as suggested by the experiment. By contrast, if the sphere
and the observer are immobile but the light source is brought into motion, the sphere
will have different light distributions falling on its surface, which will be observed
as a nonzero optical flow field by the observer. Accordingly, a zero motion field can
generate a nonzero optical flow field.
