Chi Lin Nunnery
Ming Tang-Evans/Apa Publications
At nearby Diamond Hill (MTR), the Chi Lin Nunnery ยข [map] (daily, halls:
9am-4.30pm, garden: 7am-7pm) established on a remote hillside in the 1930s has been sur-
rounded by high-rise towers and development as historical forces transformed the area. Re-
built completely in wood during the 1990s in the style of a Tang Dynasty timber monastery,
with classic flying eaves, the complex demonstrates an elegant aesthetic throughout. Sur-
rounded by lotus ponds, its many halls are home to remarkable golden statues of Buddhist
deities and the Sakyamuni Buddha.
