A few blocks up the road is elegant Kowloon Park ° [map] (daily 5am-midnight), with
fountains, promenades and ornamental gardens; go up the steps to the Sculpture Walk,
where artists from Hong Kong and elsewhere exhibit their works.
The Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre (Mon-Wed and Fri 10am-6pm, Sat-Sun
10am-7pm; free) was built around 1910 as barracks for the colonial police force; now it
houses occasional exhibitions and offers some cool respite from Kowloon crowds. The
mosque in the southeast corner of the park is the largest in the territory with four minarets.
Hong Kong has around 80,000 Muslims.
Further up Nathan Street is Yau Ma Tei , one of the older parts of Kowloon. Take a left
turn off Nathan and walk down Kansu to the Jade Market · [map] (9am-6pm), with more
than 100 stalls spread out in a tent, just before the overpass.
