In-Depth Information
The 170m (560ft) peak of Coloane island is marked by a 20m (65ft) statue of the god-
dess A-Ma, which can be seen from the sea, and the A-Ma Cultural Village (daily
8am-6pm), a newly built Qing-dynasty-style complex with temples, bell tower, drum tower,
Tian Hou Palace and museum.
The village of Coloane is peaceful and pretty. On the central square is the tiny chapel of
St Francis Xavier , dedicated to the 16th-century saint. Eat at one of the cafés serving local
food and walk down the waterfront along Avenida da Republica to the Kun Lam Temple,
built in 1677 and dedicated to the gods of heaven, war, wealth and medicine.
