On NAPE, a swathe of reclaimed land southwest of the ferry terminal, is the Macau
Cultural Centre , with two auditoria and galleries, a core venue for the annual Macau Arts
Festival in May. The adjacent Museum of Art ( www.mam.gov.mo ; Tue-Sun
10am-6.30pm; charge) houses more than 3,000 works, including permanent collections of
paintings depicting the early days of East-West trade and historical images of Macau.
Nearby, dominating the skyline on a small man-made causeway, stands a 20m (66ft) bronze
statue of Kun Iam , by Portuguese artist Christina Reira. Underneath, in the dome-shaped
lotus, is a small meditation centre and library.
Further along the shoreline, past MGM Macau, the One Central retail and office complex
and the Nam Van Lakes, the Macau Tower stretches 338m (1,109ft) above the city. For a
charge you can take a lift to the observation tower for panoramic views, and if you are brave
you can walk around outside, climb the mast or try bungee jumping. There's a revolving res-
