In-Depth Information
East Birmingham
One spot worth visiting while in Birmingham is the Ruffner Mountain Nature Center. This
538-acre preserve right in town allows one to see some of the unique geology of the area,
and it contains some remnant woodland on one of the ridges in the eastern part of the city.
Twenty-six warbler species, inhabitants and migrants, have been sighted at Ruffner Moun-
tain; some of the rarer ones for this area are the Cape May Warbler and the chestnut-sided
warbler. Otherwise, any of the woodland species that inhabit Alabama may be seen at Ruffn-
er.
