In-Depth Information
palachian Trail. This trail runs most of the length of this portion of the national forest, in a
generally north-south direction. Dugger Mountain, at the northern end of the trail, is being
considered as a possible wilderness area, but access to that area is currently limited to foot
travel. The portions of the Pinhoti Trail through the Cheaha Wilderness and Cheaha State
Park and through the Sweetwater Lake area are the most accessible. These areas of the trail
also give birders best access to the woods, away from the roads. For backpackers, this trail is
the best in this two-state area.
