FORT TOULOUSE
Located on the peninsula where the Coosa and Tallapoosa Rivers come together to form
the Alabama River, Fort Toulouse is a historic park that preserves re-creations of two forts
that were built on the site during the early 1800s. The park is owned by the State of Alabama
and is bordered, in parts, by land owned by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. To
get to Fort Toulouse, turn west onto Ft. Toulouse Road off US 231, south of Wetumpka; a
shopping center called Bienville Square with a Big B drugstore and a Food World is just
