In-Depth Information
Black-necked Stilt
To reach the facility, take exit 27 off I-10, east of Mobile, and east of the tunnel under the
river. Go north on the road designated as U.S. Highways Truck West 90 and 98. At 2 miles
and 2.2 miles, there will be gated dirt roads to the east (right) that lead up to the top of a dike;
these are the two access points to the facility. If you reach the large bridge that turns west and
goes over the river, you are leaving Blakely Island and have gone too far. There is very little
parking space at either entrance; the northernmost one does have slightly better parking. Pull
off the highway, but make sure that you do not block access to the gates and the roads. Walk
up the road to the top of the dike, and you will then be able to see over most of the facility.
