3.3.3 Re-Framing and Repositioning
Repositioning or re-framing a 3D shot (i.e., without a push-in or pull-out)
can introduce issues that may require corrective action. Humans are more
sensitive to objects intersecting the sides of a 3D frame than they are to the
top and bottom of a 3D frame. Re-framing decisions in 3D need to take into
account this unique aspect of 3D (Figure 3.5) . We discuss edge violations in
greater detail in Chapter 5. It is up to the editorial team to identify possible
edge violation candidate shots and report them for review by the depth team.
3.3.4 Post Moves
The speed of a physical camera move can impact an audience's comfort. As the
camera moves, it can create visual noise or artifacts causing discomfort and/
or discontinuity (Figure 3.6) . Postproduction moves also need to be executed
appropriately. As with re-framing, the team needs to be sure that the creative
benei t of the move outweighs its technical cost in terms of possible downstream
depth and geometry i xes. How important is it for a fast move to be in 3D? During
fast moves the team may want to switch temporarily to 2D then re-introduce
