In-Depth Information
“I am a stereographer and a producer for native 3D acquisition.
I make, and help others to make, great dimensional content for
3D cinema and 3DTV. I have two key jobs: (1) to safeguard the
creative intent of the dimensional storytelling of the project, and
(2) to design and manage the workl ow from image acquisition
through dailies to deliverables. I get to be the interpreter. I help
people understand 3D, to wrap their heads around it. I help them
set up a workl ow that makes sense for them. My job is to get
the technology out of the way of the i lmmakers, so they do not
think about the technology; they only think about the i lmmaking.”

2.2.1.4 Creative Direction
Though we do not address creative direction or storytelling in detail in this
book, it is important to understand that every role in 3D post is intended to
support the show's creative intent. Team members in the creative direction
role work closely with team members in the correction/grading role, often
directing or supervising work. They also work closely with people in the
stereography role to help them achieve their creative intent within the
resources limitations of the show. Titles associated with 3D post creative
direction include:
• Director
• Producer
• Executive Producer
• Director of Photography
2.2.1.5 Technical Operations
Team members in the Technical Operations role make sure the technology
(hardware, software, i rmware, networks and related systems) stays up and
running throughout the post lifecycle. They make sure imagery moves as
expected within and among workl ows, maintaining correct spatial and
temporal synchronization at all times. The managing team recruits and
assigns technical operations personnel for each workl ow.
Team members in this role play a critical part in testing the tools and
techniques used in the workl ows, and in making sure imagery and metadata
