In-Depth Information
on the show may be poorly understood by some of the team. The role is
an addition to the typical 2D roles that have become ingrained in imagery
production since the beginning of the motion picture age. This fact alone
can require great diplomacy and astuteness on the part of the person since
some team members may see the stereography role as encroaching on their
area of operation.
Titles associated with this role include:
• Stereographer
• Stereo Supervisor
• Director of Photography
• Director
• Editor
• Conform Artist
“I work as a freelance stereographer in production and
postproduction, overseeing all of the areas of quality in 3D. On
the production side, I work interactively with the director and DP
to decide how much depth there is in a scene and where things are
placed. In post, it's overseeing how the 3D comes together. I also
oversee the integration of visual effects into live action footage.
On some jobs there will be a stereo supervisor as well. On some
jobs I work as stereographer all the way through. It is extremely
helpful to the production to have the production stereographer
in post because there are things I can recall from the production
so I would be able to spot things more quickly.”

2.2.1.2 Correction
Although the terms grading and correction are often used interchangeably, in
this topic we make a distinction between the two terms.
Correction consists of
modifying imagery to an acceptable technical baseline to allow for creative
work. The managing team is responsible for setting up correction systems
for itself and the other workl ows.
