Figure 1.6 3D Frames.
The important thing to note here is that 3D frames occur in the visual system
of viewers, and thus, involve a degree of subjectivity. (There is no subjectivity
regarding image pairs; you either have an image pair or you do not.) The
experience of a 3D show to viewers is as a succession of 3D frames. Thus,
3D frames can (potentially) convey to audiences emotions and experiences
intended by the creators of the imagery. Ultimately, you as a creator are
concerned about how your show appears to audiences as 3D frames.
“U23D is a great example of the difference between 2D and 3D.
If you see it in 2D, it's just a concert i lm. When you see it in 3D
you are at the concert. You get to see the show from places you
could never see it if you just bought a ticket to the live show.
When Bono reaches out you feel he is reaching out to only you.
The person sitting next to you feels the same thing. In a 2D cinema
presentation everyone sees the action on the screen. In 3D people
see the action as personal to them. This level of personal intimacy
with a performer is unprecedented in a mass medium.”
