6.6.1.5 Technical Operations
The Technical Operations team makes sure that all of the color tools (color
grading systems, storage, media, monitors) are working properly. These team
members may also be responsible for loading LUTs into color systems, check
monitor color calibration and other tasks related to the color pipeline. Titles
of team members in this role include:
• Technical Operations Engineer
• Technical Director
• IT Person
6.6.1.6 Project Management
Leading the color team is the person responsible for pulling all of
the elements together and keeping the workflow on track in terms of
resources such as money and time. Titles of team members in this role
can include:
• Color Supervisor
• DI Supervisor
• Post Supervisor
• Post Producer
6.6.2 Techniques
Regardless of where color issues appear (and regardless of what caused
the  differences) it is up to the color team to determine if the mismatches
need to be resolved. As with depth and geometry issues, color issues can
combine and compound over time. Severe L/R color mismatches can obscure
geometry and depth mismatches. The objective of the color team should be
to make sure they complete technical color correction (L/R Color Matching)
as quickly and cost-effectively as possible so that creative color grading can
begin.
Teams might choose to color balance all or only some shots in a show.
Teams may choose to color balance an entire shot or only parts of a
shot. For example, a team may change the overall color cast of a shot
containing a car, or it can choose to correct the color of the car alone.
Selecting and tracking portions of imagery and making color changes
to corresponding portions of L and/or R takes time and expertise. Not
