6.5.1 Color Script
Just as in 2D post, 3D color work is guided by a Color Script or plan for
each sequence, scene and shot based on creative direction. This document
outlines the show's color story. A color script tells a color story much
like a traditional script or shot list conveys the show's visual action and
dialogue or a depth script conveys the show's desired depth story. There
are no hard and fast rules for what a color script looks like or contains.
These may just be simple notes corresponding to scene and take numbers.
Or they can be detailed shot-by-shot (even frame-by-frame) descriptions of
what is supposed to happen to the imagery in terms of lighting and color.
6.5.2 Look-Up Tables (LUTs)
Color Look-Up Tables (sometimes abbreviated as “LUTs” or “CLUTs”) are
tables of values that help make sure your show's color remains consistent
across displays. LUTs can also help teams convert imagery from one
color space to another. In short, LUTs serve the same purpose in 3D as they
do in 2D.
6.5.3 Workl ow Masters
Workl ow masters are the feedstock for the color workl ow in that they
provide the imagery (and corresponding metadata) to correct and/or grade.
Depending on where you are in the post lifecycle, the workl ow master for
color would most likely come from the editorial, depth or geometry workl ows.
6.5.4 Color Review Reports
The color review report is a list of the color issues in the show as well as
their location, nature, frequency and severity. The report may also contain
estimates of the time it will take to complete the corrective work. It is up to
the team to decide based on this review, which shots to correct and which
not to correct.
6.5.5 Color Decision List (CDL)
The team generates a Color Decision List (CDL) so that current color
decisions  become part of the Color Workl ow master. Like an Edit Decision
List (EDL), a CDL may consist of handwritten notes or detailed databases
containing data about frame-by-frame settings for color, lift, gamma and gain.
