5.6.1.1 Stereography
This is the key role on the depth team. Responsibilities of the person in the
Stereography role in the depth workl ow include: advising creative team
on how to tell their depth story using the existing footage and available
resources; advising which issues can be resolved by depth (and/or geometry)
work and which cannot. Titles of team members in this role include:
• Stereographer
• 3D Supervisor
5.6.1.2 Grading
As part of the depth grading process, team members in this role implement
the depth script of the show according to the direction of the creative team and
the maximum and minimum depth (parallax) targets. They operate depth tools
and implement depth techniques. Titles of team members in this role include:
• Depth Artist
• Depth Supervisor
• Conform Artist
• 3D Editor
5.6.1.3 Correction
Depth, unlike geometry, is primarily a grading workl ow as opposed to a
corrective one. Corrective depth can be considered depth that is adjusted
on-set to make imagery from parallel camera rigs viewable.
5.6.1.4 Creative Direction
All roles in the depth workl ow ultimately support giving the creative team
as much time as possible to establish and rei ne the depth story of the show.
After all, the creative possibilities of depth are the reason teams engage in
a 3D show. Titles of team members in this role include:
• Director
• Producer
• Executive Producer
• Writer
• Cinematographer/DP
