5.5.4 Depth Review Reports
A Depth Review Report is a document rel ecting current prioritized list of depth
issues, where they occur in the show, and recommendations or guidance on
how to address the issues. Depth adjustments, like editorial adjustments,
can occur throughout.
5.5.5 Depth Decision Lists
The team generates a document (which we will call a Depth Decision List ,
or DDL) recording the current state of the depth decisions in the show. If
the depth team is working with the show master then these changes are
integrated with the show master. If the depth team hands off its graded
imagery to editorial for conform into the show master, the depth workl ow
team should also provide metadata representing those depth decisions.
A DDL can consist of basic handwritten notes about settings and shifts in
horizontal parallax or it can be a list specifying what should happen in
terms of depth for every event in the show. The team must keep track of
this information about the current status of the depth so that it knows what
is in or not in the current show master.
“Adjust your depth based on what kind of show it is. If it is a show
about car racing you might want that extra 3D tickle. If it's something
more subtle, like PINA, for example, you may not need extreme 3D
because the imagery itself is breathtaking and the 3D just supports
that. So it's about understanding your client and your audience and
what they are expecting.”

5.6 Elements of the DEPTH Workl ow
Using the Workl ow-Element model outlined in Chapter 1 , let's examine the
depth workl ow in terms of its component elements ( Figure 5.7) :
