3.6.3 Tools
“Tools” are dei ned as “collections of hardware, software, and related
equipment used to make a show.” Tools in the 3D editorial workl ows can
be categorized as:
• Editing Systems
• Conform Systems
• Plug-Ins
• Utilities
Chapter 9 contains a 3D Post Tools Directory. including major tools for both
editing and conform. The criterion for inclusion is that the tool natively (or
with a plug-in/add-on) accommodates 3D editing or conform workl ows
(or both). Tools run the gamut from freeware (e.g., GoPro Cineform Studio)
to mainstream systems like Avid Media Composer, Sony Vegas, Grass
Valley Edius, and Apple's Final Cut Pro. Some editing systems can network
multiple workstations together to share assets. Some systems provide asset
management, storage and graphics acceleration.
