Figure 23. Seasonal changes of available phosphorous of soil in the salt marsh bed of Fauzderhat area
of Chittagong coast.
Total nitrogen (N) found in the soil of salt marsh bed of the Fauzderhat coast, Chittagong
was varied from 0.08±0.01 to 0.14±0.01 (%) in different seasons. The minimum value
(0.06%) for total N was recorded during winter and the maximum value (0.15%) was
recorded during postmonsoon (Appendix A, Figure 22). Variations in the concentrations of
total N among monsoon, postmonsoon, winter and premonsoon were significant at 5% level
of significance (Table 1). Significantly (p<0.05) higher value in postmonsoon and lower
value in winter was observed in this study.
Total N showed a positive correlation with dissolved oxygen, tidal height, inundation period,
bulk density, exchangeable Ca, Mg & K and available P of soil and a negative correlation
with water transparency, water table depth, soil salinity, soil organic carbon, organic matter,
