In-Depth Information
Exchangeable Mg of soil collected from the experimental field of the study area was
varied from 3.30.±0.07 to 4.72 ±0.09 meq/100g in different seasons. The minimum value
(3.22 meq/100gm) for exchangeable Ca was recorded during winter and the maximum value
(4.82 meq/100gm) was recorded during postmonsoon (Appendix A, Figure 21). Variations in
the concentrations of exchangeable Mg among monsoon, postmonsoon, winter and
premonsoon were significant at p<0.05 (Table 1). Significantly (p<0.05) higher value in
postmonsoon and lower value in winter was recorded in this study. Exchangeable Mg showed
a positive correlation with dissolved oxygen, total suspended solids, tidal height, inundation
period, soil temperature, percentage of sand, bulk density, the exchangeable Ca& K, total N
& available P of soil and a negative correlation with water salinity, water transparency, water
table depth, soil salinity, soil organic carbon, organic matter, percentage of clay, field water
capacity and porosity of soil at a significant level of p<0.01. Exchangeable Mg also positively
influenced by particle density and negatively influenced by moisture content of soil at the
level of p<0.05 (Appendix B).
Exchangeable K of soil collected from the experimental field of the study area ranged
from 0.66.±0.03 to 3.32.±0.09 meq/100g during the period of sampling in different seasons.
The minimum value (0.62 meq/100gm) for exchangeable K was recorded during winter and
the maximum value (3.43 meq/100gm) was recorded during postmonsoon (Appendix A,
Figure 21). Variations in the concentrations of exchangeable K among monsoon,
postmonsoon, winter and premonsoon were significant at p<0.05 (Table 1). Significantly
(p<0.05) higher value in postmonsoon and lower value in winter was noticed in this study.
Exchangeable K showed a positive correlation with exchangeable Ca & Mg, total N and the
available P of soil and a negative correlation with porosity of soil at a significant level of
p<0.01. Exchangeable K also negatively influenced by water table depth at the level of
p<0.05 (Appendix B).
