transparency, soil organic carbon, organic matter, percentage of silt and clay, moisture
content and field water capacity of soil at a significant level of p<0.01 in the present study. In
addition the soil temperature showed a positive correlation with total N and a negative
correlation with water salinity, soil salinity that was found to be significant at p<0.05
(Appendix B). Soil pH recorded in situ from the bed of salt marsh plant P. coarctata was
always found to be acidic condition and it was ranged from 6.75±0.06 to 6.97±0.47 with
minimum value (6.66) that was found during winter and maximum value (7.90) that was
recorded during premonsoon (Appendix A). The ranges of soil pH values showed almost
uniform distribution pattern throughout the study (Figure 13).
