Use Cases and Examples
Hypervisors can be used in different roles, depending on their specific business require-
ments. Here we mention a few common and important use cases and examples:
Data Center Management Organizations can use hypervisors to manage the virtual
resources of a data center. This allows ease of usability by providing a one-stop plat-
form (dashboard) for managing all the resources, diagnosing issues, and monitoring
performance. Such a technology also allows organizations to create new private cloud
environments.
Hosting and Service Providing A hypervisor environment can be used to provision the
infrastructure and resources for offering hosting and public cloud services. Customized
cloud environments can be enabled that allow on-demand provisioning of resources, flex-
ibility, and scalability. Moreover, they can provide multiple user interfaces, performance
monitoring, accounting, and reporting for billing purposes.
High-Performance Computing and Science Virtualized resources can be used to build and
manage high-performance computing (HPC) and science cloud environments through the
hypervisor technology. This enables flexible and elastic computing resources to solve engi-
neering, analytics, manufacturing, and scientific problems. Hypervisors empower the users
by providing support for heterogeneous execution environments, fast scalability, higher
utilization, and lower costs.
