EXERCISE 7.3
Exporting Service Templates in Microsoft VMM
As mentioned, exporting of service templates will allow us to use them at a later date
or at a different deployment without having to manually reconfigure everything. Follow
these steps to export your service templates:
1. From the VMM console, open the Library workspace. This is the same one you saw in
the illustration in Exercise 7.1.
2. Find and expand the Templates node from the library pane on the left and select
Service Templates. On the Template pane on the right, select the service template
you wish to export and then click the Export button.
From the Export Template Resources dialog box, you can export other physical
resources associated with the service template.
3. In the Physical Resources column, click None.
This is because you want to individually select the resources in the Select
Resources dialog.
4. Select the resources and then accept your selection.
You can also export sensitive information such as passwords and product keys and
other settings.
5. Select the Export Any Sensitive Template Settings check box.
6. Configure the encryption option for the sensitive settings.
7. Select the Encrypt Template Settings check box and enter an encryption password.
If the sensitive template settings are not included during export, an administrator can sim-
ply update the template later or provide these settings manually during template import.
EXERCISE 7.4
Importing Service Templates in Microsoft VMM
When you already have service templates exported or ready, any administrator or user
that has been marked as an owner can import them and all associated resources.
1. Follow the first two steps for exporting templates (Exercise 7.3), and in the Library
pane, expand the Templates node and choose Service Templates.
On the Home tab to the right, there is an Import group where there is a button
labeled Import Template.
