Chapter 10
Construction and Installation
Restoration projects are implemented through
management practices and techniques and,
where needed, construction of the prescribed
physical features (improvements) at a project
site. Measures (including biota) designed to
initiate restoration of the intended ecosystem
are then installed. Throughout this process,
the work is reviewed for compliance with the
plans, permits, and project stakeholder's stat-
ed desires (fig. 10-1).
Defining Your Role and Participation
Restoration projects are implemented by a va-
riety of workers with multiple skills and varied
experience. These people have such titles as
“design-build contractor,” “field supervisor,”
“project supervisor,” “independent contrac-
tor,” “subcontractor,” and “site inspector.”
Your involvement in the construction
and installation of a restoration project
will vary depending on a variety of factors,
including your training and experience;
the capacity of your firm, organization, or
agency to perform the work required; poli-
cy, regulations, and licensing requirements
FIGURE 10-1. The implementation phase covers the
range from paper plans to in the ground. Although
the project may close out at this phase, typically
monitoring will continue for several years.
