The scale of early maps (graphical in the majority of cases, the numerical
version arrives later) was also decorated and is usually made of various
beams with the use of dividers and other measuring devices ( Figure 6 ) ,
even though there are exceptions (e.g. Fabricius's map of Moravia). Deco-
rative north indicators/wind roses must not be forgotten ( Figure 8 ) .
