24.6.3 Pore Pressures and Quantities of Seepage Water
Figure 24.25 (left) shows the equipotentials in the middle of the valley that were derived
by inter- and extrapolation of pore pressure measurements. A considerable reduction of
the hydraulic heads takes place in the rock mass and in the lower part of the dam from up-
stream to downstream up to the level of the lower inspection gallery. Thus, the equipoten-
tials on the downstream side of the lower inspection gallery are scarcely influenced by the
water level at the upstream side. This is a clear sign of the efficiency of the drainage system.
