20.3.3 Experience Gained from Other Tunnels Located in the Lias

Formation
Figure 20.31 shows the elevation of some tunnels that were constructed between 1979
and 2001 in the Lias
formation in Stuttgart. Besides construction lot 601, the Hasen-
berg tunnel (Section 19.2), the road tunnel Österfeld (Section 12.6) and the Station
University (Section 16.7.2) were constructed in the Lias
α
comprising predominantly
claystone (Wittke & Grüter 1982, Wittke 1990, Wittke 1991, Wittke et al. 2002). The
1100 m long construction pit for the airport station (construction lot 72) and construc-
tion lot 92 were constructed in the alternating sequence (Wedler & Wörner 1988). Fur-
ther experience was gained from the 130 m long monitoring pit that was excavated prior
to construction of the airport station (Grüter 1988, Wittke 1991, Figs. 20.30 and 20.31).
