4.5.6 Conclusions
The reliable prediction of the radial displacements of the tunnel contour and their de-
velopment with time are required for the economic design of a tunnel in squeezing rock.
On this basis stability analyses using an adequate analysis procedure must be carried
out. As a result, the support measures can be specified before construction and corre-
spondingly tendered.
The analysis results presented in this chapter have shown that the strength, structure
and time-dependent behavior of the rock mass have a major impact on the radial dis-
placements of the tunnel contour. The program used, FEST03, far from oversimplifying
