I flavoHbs of seven Mycobacterial species are presented in
Fig. 5.6
, showing
close similarity in the genes present in the flanking sites of flavoHb-encoding
genes. The flavoHb gene has a transcriptional regulator at the upstream
region in five out of the seven strains of Mycobacteria examined that may
possibly control its genetic regulation. It is likely that similar regulatory con-
trols exist for Type I flavoHbs, and that they perform similar functions in
these Mycobacterial species.
Until now, only one Type II flavoHb, from
M. tuberculosis
, has been
characterised. It carries a gene encoding
clpB
upstream and a gene for a reg-
ulatory protein down-stream. The divergent
