telephone companies launching IPTV service in
Taiwan is high. Since the cable MSOs in Taiwan
have warned the cable channels not to come
to CHT's IPTV platform, it is hard for CHT to
gain video market share quickly if it does not
have interesting content to attract subscribers.
Therefore, some studies suggest that CHT has
to adopt a differentiated strategy and exploit its
unlimited channels and VOD service to offer a
greater variety of content and price flexibility, as
well as develop innovative interactive services in
order to gain a competitive advantage (Lee, 2007).
Since CHT has a more than 80% market share of
the DSL broadband market and our study shows
that the IPTV platform displacement effect does
occur, it still has more potential to compete with
cable TV in Taiwan.
