In-Depth Information
Even if you don't take a tour, you can grab a look at the public spaces—the cavernous
and historic Westminster Hall, St. Stephen's Hall, and the Central Lobby—before queuing
up for either (or both) of the two chambers (the House of Lords has the grander space and
usually has a shorter wait).
Cost and Hours (House Galleries): Free, open only when parliament is in session;
House of Commons—Oct-July Mon 14:30-22:00, Tue-Wed 11:30-19:00, Thu 9:30-17:30;
House of Lords—Oct-July Mon-Tue 14:30-22:00, Wed 15:00-22:00, Thu 11:00-19:00;
last entry usually around 20:00; get the exact schedule at www.parliament.uk . Both houses
are closed Fri-Sun, and during the Aug-Sept recess, except by guided tour.
Tours: On Saturdays year-round (9:15-16:30) and most days during recess (Aug-
Sept, generally Mon-Sat—times vary), the only way you can get inside is with a
tour—either with an audioguide ( £ 17.50) or a live guide ( £ 25, 1.5 hours). Confirm the
tour schedule at www.parliament.uk . Book ahead by calling 0844-847-1672 or through
www.ticketmaster.co.uk . The on-site ticket office (open 8:45-16:45 on tour days only) is
located next to the Jewel Tower, opposite the southern end of the Houses of Parliament.
The TI across from St. Paul's Cathedral plans to sell tour tickets as well.
